massage therapist Jean KoncosI recently had the opportunity to gain insight into Jean Koncos and her profession as a Massage Therapist.  Jean is the owner of At Vancouver Massage and a self-employed licensed massage therapist with 15 years experience in the Healing Arts. Jean uses an eclectic blend of many styles to culminate her Signature Massage which incorporates a synergistic blend of essential oils, hot stones, Fascia Blasting, Deep Tissue, and Swedish Massage.

Today we are going to ask Jean 5 questions and see her responses to get a better picture of who Jean Koncos is as a  person and what At Vancouver Massage is as a business.

1. Jean, what was your dream job growing up?

Response: Cook. I grew up in NJ and my family would eat out at dinner. I loved watching the cooks in the kitchen and I wanted to be a cook and work in the restaurant industry.

I received my Restaurant Management degree from Drexel University and after graduating accepted a position as an Assistant Manager at Atwater’s in Portland Oregon. I later worked at Reed College as the catering director. I worked in the industry for 10 years.

2. Why did you choose your current profession as a massage therapist?

Response: I was introduced to essential oils in 2000. I wanted to work in the healing arts. Massage was the perfect choice to integrate the essential oils as a healing modality. I still use them today and feel as though they are one of the reasons I benefit from great health.

3. What book did you last read and what book has had the biggest impact on you and why?

Response: Disconnected Kids: The Groundbreaking Brain Balance Program for Children with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Other Neurological Disorders by Dr. Robert Melillo. It guided me to have the tools to help my son who presents with ADHD. It helped my son tremendously by putting him through the brain balance program.

4. What are your favorite ways that your business or profession supports the community?

Response: Health and wellness are more relevant today than ever.  Our bodies need maintenance and preventative care in order to withstand the demands that we put it through.   As a massage therapist and holistic provider of Preventative care, my fellow therapists and I support the community by providing a service that helps people heal, and deal with their stress.

5. Give us an example of a time you knew you were in the right business.

Response: I know I’m in the right business every single day. I was gifted with a talent to heal with my hands. I have spent 18 years blessed with the opportunity to help people right where they are in their own personal journey. I love what I do and when a client shares their recovery with me and how the work that I do makes a difference in how they feel……that is everything!
