Recently, as we have gotten busier, I felt an increase in communication from customers to both Steven and Jose which originated from me.  What this led to is all three of us need to know what was going on and the phone would ring and most of the time only 1 or 2 of us having all the information.

Any small business owner can appreciate this scenario.  Having previously been in the restaurant industry; it used to be that things got written down, verbally communicated, and verbally communicated again.  These days in the 24-hour news cycle and instant information writing it down and scheduling meetings really is not a functional daily solution.

How did I solve this issue to keep customers, employees, and myself happy and not bogged down with another process?

We turned to #slack.  What the hell is slack you may be wondering?

Find out here; https://slack.com/

According to the website; “Slack is where work flows. It’s where the people you need, the information you share, and the tools you use come together to get things done.”

If you have used instant messaging in the past it can operate this way.  So it is simple to pick up. As a business owner, it is also easy to set up.  You can set up channels to for projects or common business themes and invite people to participate in the process

Those looking for why Slack google it; this is the result –

  • Easy, automated reminders. …
  • Task list management. …
  • Easy note-taking. …
  • Collaborate with posts. …
  • Powerful search capabilities. …
  • Custom shortcuts and slash commands. …
  • Audio and video calls. …
  • Useful bots. Besides integrated apps, Slack also hosts bots.

Currently, we use the free version.  It integrates with several apps. It allows staff that is not together to collaborate on projects and handle tasks more efficiently.

My top 4 reasons Slack has been successful in my business:

It is easy to use

It is easy to implement

It is able to be part of automation strings

It makes teams work smarter and not harder

Instead of resisting technology and change we have to look at it as part of the solution instead of the problem.
